Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney Raises $6,764 for Aussie Farmers and Bushifre Victims
Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney has always prided itself as a hotel that cares strongly about the community, which is part of our extensive Responsible Business efforts. One charity that we focused on in 2019 was Drought Angels, a charity devoted to supporting Australian farmers and their families.
Drought Angels is a small Queensland based charity who have become well-known for their efforts supporting drought-affected farmers, their families and bushfire victims in Australia who are sometimes hesitant to ask for help. Drought Angels responds to these calls via various means of support including food hampers, groceries, fuel vouchers, animal feed donations, and mental health support.
To offer our hand in support, the hotel pledged to raise funds for our Aussie farmers through the months of November and December. This was achieved via many departments. Read on for the various activities and amounts raised to support the drought-affected farmers and their families this Christmas.
In November and December, the hotel created the option for our guests upon check out to add a donation onto their invoice to go to drought and bushfire affected families. In doing so, we were able to raise $589 in donations from our guests.
With Melbourne Cup comes office sweeps, and so this year, all proceeds from the annual Melbourne Cup raffle saw $179.20 of the winnings be set aside for donation.
Each year, our Front Office team sells iconic Australian animal Christmas decorations as a unique choice for the Christmas tree. Annually, they choose a charity for which to donate the proceeds of sales to. Fittingly, they chose to support Drought Angels ensuring our hotel could support them as much as possible through the various means. In total, $1,710 will be donated from these ornament sales!
Our Food and Beverage manager organized for our participation in the “Let it Pour” campaign, with Great Northern donating 1000 beer kegs to venues nationally; allowing organisations such as the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney to hold fundraisers. This promotion was a great success, and within a week, we had achieved the goal of raising $1,000 just at The Fax Bar, thanks to CUB and Great Northern Brewing Co. Our Conference and Events department had promised 1% of the revenue from every function held during November and December to be donated to Drought Angels. $4,000 from the Conference and Events team was raised during this period.
In total, the hotel has proudly raised $6,764.40 for The Drought Angels, which will go towards supporting families most in need during these tough times. With the added stress of expenses from Christmas and property loss from the devastating bushfires, hopefully, these funds will be a small relief to many struggling families who are seeking help via Drought Angels.
