The Results are in from Radisson Blu's Community Action Month!
The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney and our staff are committed to achieving environmental and social sustainability in the “harbour city”. As part of this commitment, we endeavour to give back to our community and provide ample opportunity for our staff to get involved in charitable and community initiatives. This can be seen through our activities run by the hotel and encouraging staff to participate and make a difference.
Furthermore, we thought we’d provide an update of the wonderful efforts made by our team members (under the guidance of our HR department), to ensure happy staff and happy guests. By participating in several initiatives and causes throughout the year, our hotel is able to maintain its reputation as an eco-friendly and community-focused hotel, sticking by the brand’s ethos and our commitment to be a ‘responsible business’.
June Community Action Month
Each year, the Radisson Hotel Group runs a Community Action Month, where all the departments get involved in some way to help the local community in various initiatives. Read on to find out what activities have been held:
Finance: The Finance team held a seafood raffle for The Smith Family and were able to raise $211 from selling raffle tickets. In the month of June, they also ran the ‘Return and Earn’ initiative, with proceeds from the collection going to The Smith Family. They also partnered with the Engineering team, running the popular annual Hotdog Day for Radisson Blu staff, with all proceeds going to The Smith Family. They were able to raise $297.
Food and Beverage: Seven of our staff volunteered their time to Astha Homeless Services at Central station in Sydney to assist with feeding the needy by handing out meals and winter warming essentials such as duvets and blankets. The Kitchen team also assisted by volunteering their time to produce meals for the team to give out. The Front Office team assisted by preparing 126 sandwiches to be distributed by Astha and our staff at Central station.
Housekeeping: The Housekeeping department Implemented a spare foreign change box for international currency and tips, with all proceeds of the 11kg of coins donated given to UNICEF. They also held a ‘Biggest Morning Tea’, where many staff cooked and brought in items to sell; they were able to raise $1,468.30 in one day for The Cancer Council (see first picture above).
The Sales and Marketing and Revenue departments both decided to hold winter clothing drives, with donations going to both St Vincent de Paul and Lifeline charities. These charities were chosen in particular, to support women at The Marian women’s shelter and young children in local areas. 16 bags of assorted clothing and personal items were able to be donated.
Great results, thanks to our guests
Although we run activities throughout the year, we hold this Community Action month to maximise our contributions to our local community. We would especially like to thank all our customers who assisted us in raising $3,000 for the Christchurch community in New Zealand to assist with after-costs and support for the mosque shooting victims. We were able to raise this amount from the proceeds of our New Zealand food and wine promotion held in both our Radisson Blu plaza Sydney hotel and Radisson Blu Resort Fiji.
Small actions; Big picture
These contributions by our various departments are small initiatives, but part of the “big picture” in doing our part to support those less fortunate. A lot of small initiatives can create a great impact, and we as a hotel strive to better our contributions each year. Stay tuned for our future initiatives and impact on our local community!
